John Yang, Head Coach
Coach John has been coaching competitive volleyball since 1997. He is IMPACT certified and plans to pursue his CAP Certificate in the future. He began his coaching career as a Graduate Assistant for his high school varsity team when he was a senior in high school. He then became assistant coach and head coach after he graduated from high school. During those three years, his team qualified TAPPS State Final four for the first time in the school history, but also qualified back to back seasons. He also spent 2 seasons as assistant Junior Varsity coach at Pantego Christian Academy with Coach Drew Noah. The team went undefeated both seasons. Coach John also started his new role as a Try-out Coach and Assistant Coach for USAV HP Program in 2013. He has worked numerous HP Try-outs across the nation and serve as an assistant coach at HP Camp. Coach John came to EXCEL in 2010 after spending 7 seasons at Texas Image as both assistant and head coach for 15s and 16s. He closed his last Image season leading a 15 Elite National team to qualify for the National Championship at Reno, NV. In 2011, He led 16 National Elite to 2nd Place finish at MEQ and ranked top 11th in NTR at the end of season. The following year Coach Yang led EXCEL 17 Elite National team to qualify for USAV Nationals by winning the Mideast National Qualifier at Indianapolis, IN in 2012. The team posted 20-0 perfect record that weekend. They also qualified TOT and close the season ranked 4th in NTR. In 2014, Coach John led 14 National-JY to GJNC by qualifying through NTR Bid Regional. The team placed 5th and close the season ranking 13th. Most recently, Coach John led 17 National White to Silver medal finish at Lone Star Classic and qualified GJNC in 2017. That same team also finished 1st at TOT Qualifier qualified TOT. 17 National White close the season with 10th rank in NTR. Coach John started his playing career when he was in junior high and plays through college. He played on the first and the only NCAA sanctioned Men’s Volleyball program in Texas at Dallas Baptist University, which won 2nd Place at NCCAA National Men’s Volleyball Championship in 2002. That team also posted numerous tournament wins that year. John works as an Accountant for large software developing company. He holds Accounting degree from Dallas Baptist University and is pursuing his CPA. John is married and resides in Grand Prairie with his wife and their 2 boys.
