Bio

Anthony Clowers is beginning his coaching career with Excel in 2025, bringing over 15 years of volleyball experience as a player and coach. He is passionate about developing athletes both on and off the court, sharing the lessons, skills, and values that volleyball has taught him. His goal is to help players ignite—or further fuel—their passion for the game while fostering teamwork, discipline, and confidence.

Anthony’s coaching journey began in 2014 as an assistant coach for East Bay Academy VBC’s U16-1 team. From 2020 to 2024, he coached Dyess Air Force Base volleyball teams, helping service members develop their skills and compete at a high level. His leadership background extends beyond sports—he spent 2021-2024 as a USAF Leadership School Instructor, where he trained and mentored future Air Force leaders, a skill set that translates directly into his coaching philosophy.

As a player, Anthony competed at a high level across multiple stages. He started his club career in the Bay Area, finishing 5th at Junior Nationals in the Club Division with Bay to Bay in 2014. He also played for the USA Volleyball High-Performance program, securing a 2nd- and 4th-place finish in the 2012 and 2013 U19 Division with the Northern California Regional team. His high school team at Amador Valley placed 2nd in their district and 5th in the inaugural Northern California Region tournament in 2013.

After high school, Anthony chose to forego college and serve in the United States Air Force for 10 years, where he continued to excel in volleyball. He was a three-time All-Tournament Team selection and won two gold medals with the All-Air Force Volleyball Team (2018, 2019, 2024). In 2018, he competed internationally with the U.S. Armed Forces team, facing elite military players from countries such as Brazil, Germany, China, Canada, Spain, Netherlands, Japan and France—many of whom were professional or Olympic athletes.

Alongside his military service, Anthony earned a degree in Applied Management from Grand Canyon University. He spent seven years as a Munitions Systems Technician before transitioning to Leadership Instruction, where he developed skills in emotional intelligence, mentorship, and team development.

Now at Excel, Coach Anthony is eager to bring his unique blend of high-level playing experience, leadership expertise, and coaching knowledge to help athletes grow and succeed. He is committed to fostering a competitive yet supportive environment where players can push their limits, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love for the game.
