Bio
Justin has been with Excel since 2015 and has been successful from the very beginning. Justin consistently qualifies for Nationals with an Open bid since he became a Head Coach in 2018. Prior to that he qualified with a National bid and a USA bid as an Assistant Coach. 2018 was also Justin’s first year as a Head Coach at the High School level at Plano West. Behind Excel athletes Jill Pressly, Avery Lowe, and Liv Adey, Waters’ team finished 3rd in the State Tournament capping a very memorable first year in a lead role. He went on to lead the Lady Wolves to a 2nd consecutive trip to state the following year where they fell just short in a 5-set thriller in the finals.
Justin is a devoted trainer of skills and mechanics. He often makes his mark with the development of offensive shots and teaching players to make plays out of system. Justin’s demeanor, as well as his hair, rarely change providing stability for his teams. Justin began playing volleyball at the University of Texas in Austin where he competed on the club volleyball team. He continues to compete today playing as an Outside Hitter or Libero competitively.
Beyond volleyball, Justin is an avid Longhorn and Dallas Cowboy fan. He is also a skilled craftsman who loves taking on painting and woodworking projects. Some of his work can be spotted inside Courtside Sports Center. Justin’s great skill is mastering escape rooms. Justin is also recently married to his wife Makenzie.
